Cofounded by me and Vanji in 1989. A lot of its early history should be on these pages. The actual founders were SSOJ and Students'. The former for political reasons, they already had their dicks full of being reduced to organization of radna akcija, youth culture and entertainment and to be a sidekick in everything, and seeing where the country was going, they wanted to do something more substantial, so let's found youth companies. They already made one, some machine engineering design bureau, which was quite a success (later transformed into stock company, presently under liquidation, with six employees). DBA was their second project, and for financing they got their hands on the oil rent funds, at least the part which remained in the municipality, which was left unused for years and just accumulated. The latter also had some extra money, because they'd get their share of all that youth's untaxed labor, what students and highschoolers unloaded railway cars, mowed parks and washed windows, and they likewise becunted that every year some guys from the komitet would come and tell them which sports club to pour that money into. Well no, fuck that, you've had enough dinners in clubs' taverns financed from that money, we mean to do something serious with it. Of course, both those sources together weren't enough, so while writing the founding project (guess it would be called business plan nowadays, it was „elaborat“ then), I added a clause whereby „the missing means will be provided by company's own labor“, which just passed unnoticed, and even turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
A very successful software company, with customers all over the place - most of Serbia, from near Hungarian border all the way to Sombor and Čoka in the north, Prijepolje in the south, Sisak in the west, and Vršac in the east. Great geek fun until fall of the crazy 1993, when it all went south.
Initially used two rooms in Dom. Then two bigger ones in Students'. Then bought space in the underground under the square connecting the bridge and main street, in front of sdk.
The first team, as congregated in the first month, included the two of us, then Sale, Blaža, Brata, Grgi, Nena.
By the end of the first year, added Milka, Rade,Gradek, Fefi, Carp andŠteva. Stayed like that until 1993, when it became interesting.
There was once a conclusion that there were three guys of importance for the development of the IT sector in town at the time - Žića, Big Ćale and the CEO of metal kombinat, who didn't let their IT teams go openly on the market and service other oours, „nobody will get [undeservedly] rich on my watch“, which led to their best programmers flight into DBA. In latter years, there will be two important additions to this hall of fame: first, Sale (or, rather, his wife) will likewise cause the splinter into Avai, and then Vanji will lead to me becoming a gastarbajter once more and the founding of UScrew. Quite a genealogy.
