Kosta

(App, Yugoslavia)

Application I wrote two or three times.

The first time it was in the DBA. It was an attempt to record jobs done, to be literally a workorders without workorders, so we can keep track of what when and how much and for which customer did we do, and to put it together, to have real data upon which we can calculate and accordingly charge for our work. This, of course, relies on the general discipline, which was really hard to enforce in this case, you can't force co-owners to remember to write down what they did yesterday, when they returned at 23:55 from Prijepolje and before they had the time to finish the first coffee in the morning, five phones ring. Not at the same time, we had only two lines, but it rang at least five times before the coffee was done with, by which time a car key is already in hand, time to go.

The Kosta was my work (named after Ko Šta [radi], Who [did] What), I tried to set an example, and regularly typed my hours in, what with customer, date (okay, it was automatically today's, move back one if it was yesterday), transportation (the code list of transport was „yugo“, „toyota“, „tel[ephone]“, „mod“[em], „574“ (code on my bicycle lock) and „foot“) and the work description. By 1993. most of the folks gave up on keeping track, then agreed to resume, which held for a week or two. I still kept on with it, so when the push came to shove in the spring of 1994. I had the source to pull my work hours from. Turned out I had some 260 or 420 unpaid overtime hours, can't remember exactly and the data are gone, and I was being paid exactly the same as Sale's wife, who sat in the office scratching her cunt and went home as soon as eight hours were up, not counting sorties into downtown to buy stuff when needed.

I wrote this in Avai again, with the discipline being somewhat better for a while, but it didn't live long because we had proper paper workorders (printed with our logotype, in our purplificent color), which were signed off by the customer and thus billable. But still it was good that we had it in the app as well, because when we had a bucketout* with MXM, taking out the data lasted less than hour and a half, and we had it in black and white what we did and what they need to pay.

The third time was an attempt to write something in fox for a Windows, it being the simplest app, with minimal number of fields, screens and everything.
