22-IV-1994.

Date approximate, but should be some time between mid-april and 3. may. What happened in this time:

Ileš called, probably from Sombor, to ask whether I had someone with a dentist app, he has a way to sell it in Hungary. Well, only a few months before that I had arranged for Joška to demo his dental app (done in Clipper 87) at DBA (which was later derided as "we don't need no tooth drawers around here"). I had a copy of it and promised to take a look. Also talked with Joška and he didn't mind, as long as he got paid some.

Then Ileš drove all the way here to bring me the specs, bad photocopies faxed over (or bad faxes photocopied), of which I understood nearly nothing. It was not as much a matter of having a working dentist app, the more important thing was to regularly export the data (what was done to which patient etc) on a floppy to MedAdat, because any dental shop which delivered those would be awarded some 2000 HUF per delivery (as retyping those from paper would probably have cost more), and there was a market waiting.

The trouble was that the specs were in hungarian, which I didn't speak, knew maybe 200 words and some elementary grammar, and the Clipper stuff wouldn't really be my forte - I'd have to rework it into fox, specially if we wanted to have that export. Which I started to do, in GenerAll, such as it was at the time, only a month or two old.

Now when I think of what I was getting myself into, it sounds a bit scary. I'm writing an application (a general rewrite, from scratch, of Joška's), in a framework that I just started developing, for a company I never saw, for users who speak a foreign language which I don't speak, while still working at DBA, full time with field work.

Audaces fortuna iuvat.
