škodilak

Some cars used to have nicknames. In this case, the Škoda (misspelled Skoda by the manufacturer itself now, all fucks go to globalization and anglization of everything) was nicknamed škodilak, to point out how it doesn't resemble a cadillac at all.

Similarly, a wartburg (from DDR) was a warborghini, and the czechoslovakian* jawa motorbike was a javasaki. Nope, it was polish - czech language doesn't have w, while polish doesn't have v. There was a DDR bike, with interesting design, the tank and the headlight were seemingly in one long piece of plastic, but the light part actually swiveled with the steering, that was called emzejac (from MZ), and there was some czech bike without any special brand that anyone knew of, it looked like pre-war yet new, some stale design, that we caled a čezetka (from Česke Zavody or some such).

Around 2012 and later the škodilaks became quite popular here again, specially after the police and a few other services bought a few hundreds of them.
