He was teaching pre-vojska course, or whatever it was named then (the same course at the first two years of college had even more words). It seems he was a peasant's child, from a near village, a pure Lala but of the cunning and snide kind, always ready to snipe some mocking remark and turn out to be a frajer. We thought he must have finished college too, as he was titled a professor just like the rest of the teaching staff, but not so, guess he had a rank from the reserve, which somehow counted as such. He did try to keep abreast, being in a gimnazija, so he sort of kept reading and stayed current, but as Gavra said, „he's a well read man, from newspaper“. We sort of liked him, because he was a man of the people, but then he was a hollow and shallow guy too.
Us taking his acronym for a nickname is his own doing. When ŽGLJ went on talking how he will use his middle letter, as was customary among famous english chemists (where he fucked up, they did it from middle names, which we don't exist in our culture), he said „if ŽGLJ is fine, so is LML.
He was prone to uncultured behavior, to pretense of being a bit of an officer and a bit of rascal. Since were soon neighbors of sorts, he paid strict attention to avoid any semblance of me being in any way privileged, so I received a dose of rough treatment a few times, just a notch above normal.
How did he manage to get married with Sofija, is still unclear to me. They had two sons, twins, whom I barely ever saw, despite them living 100m from us. They sort of divorced at times, then reheated the sarma, then split again. He threw the spoon many years before she did. She was still alive in 2024, outliving him by some 30 years.
