The Hala X. Luckily, too much space is taken by cars, so not that many people in it. The ventilation was always a problem.
Paliković was a star then. INA was the croatian oil company, they paid him from their advertising budget.
Belgrade car fair. The stand of the Auto/Avto car magazine - with fancy computerlike font in the header, so that the u/v character can be read both ways. They had a movie clip of how they tested the new Saab, when they veered off some alpine road in snow and the car saved their necks, it being swedish steel and engineering, specifically made for such cases. I felt so knowledgeable, having read their article about the event this winter. Took a shot of Jovica Paliković's porsche. I loved the design of the new Renault 6. There was some roadwork and traffic jam - took us 15 minutes from ETF to the fair (which is no more than 3km).
Of course we went downtown as well, dad parked the fića on the Marx and Engels Square, by the fountain, visiting Terazije and the RKB (department store) was almost mandatory. I still enjoy a bit of a ride on the escalator (for a few more years this was the only one I knew of), and mom, yet, wanted to do some shopping, there's always stuff which you can find in Belgrade and not at home.
On the square I spot an Aston Martin, a coupe or a convertible, studded with nine dead sparrows on the front grille, and wondered what speed could that have been, and where could it have been achieved, where'd a road for such a stunt be. At least I knew what an Aston Martin was.
The next day we had a bit of a project, the other girl in the movie sekcija and I should take a spool of 8mm (each!) and make the same movie twice, independently, and then compare the results. I had an idea to take Oli Boj for an actress. She said she can't do it alone, but with a friend it would be OK. Deal. So we wouldn't be alone, but we'd still be together.
Two days later (after a delay because of the rain), she came, with a different friend: Đica. Afraid of gossip and the backward mentality. But that's when we're in school; outside it's different. It's supposed to involve a ball, some empty lawn in front of Lesnina... I do remember a few scenes, specially Đica with a ball, but have no clue what came out of it, nor what it was supposed to be.
On 25th we go, whole school perhaps, to watch "To sir, with love". I'll try.
Starting 21st, we're having a snack in the school. A bun and a 0,25l bottle of yogurt. The bun is not what we're used to, it's something experimental, brownish, with soy. A bit tough to chew, rather dry, but goes down ok with yogurt. They had some kind of campaign, had to convince parents that everyone should take it. I guess it was also rather subsidized as a science experiment. Guess a campaign to introduce soy as a food staple came from somewhere, someone saw it as a chance to get a master's degree by doing very little work, a frequent occurrence in education.
We didn't quite like it, and there were often half-eaten buns (more precisely, croissants, though they were too straight to qualify) in the waste basket, and yogurt smears in places.
