A fellow programmer at stour. Never amounted to much; his code would run, but would be slow. He was in charge of doing ports of the pdp stuff into m$ Cobol, anyway, so he only had to make the adjustments.
He finished some college in Zagreb, somewhat related to programming I guess, so his naturally hungarized serbian (as he was from Čurda) was sprinkled with an odd assortment of croatian expressions. There were some hints that he got the job by political intervention and the pressure just couldn't be ignored.
Not a bad guy, all in all, considering that he actually had a mental problem. It started surfacing in my last months there, when he'd stare at the same character on his screen for hours, not moving at all. Which is a sort of a natural pose for a programmer, but... when even I started noticing, it should have been some sign.
He even became the president of the local community of Čurda; we saw him on the village fair, sporting a suit and a necktie, walking around all important. In that period he sometimes arranged meetings of whichever committee right here in erc, once even taking Radoja's office. For that, being untouchable, he got only a mild serious talk, not even a proper chiting.
When I left, he did have some episodes, even one when he locked himself in the machine room, with the Vaha and line printers, and they couldn't touch him because of all the heavy iron doors. That's the last I know.
