spaček

(Machine, France)

The Citroën 2CV is nicknamed spaček [sputcheck] here. It's sharing the name with Cissy Spacek may be a coincidence.

Even now (2012) there are quite a few running around. Probably just as much a legend as the VW beetle (which nobody called so here until the 90s, it was called a turtle). There's one I want to take a shot of, often parked along the way to Klincaid. Jablan had one, Rudolf had one, Bukac had one.

The first version was called „umbrella on four wheels“, because of the tarpaulin roof. It was the only car which lost nothing of its charm after a fender bender.
