Last night Laura left Firriver, all of a sudden. David explained that with "professional reasons", which may read as "found a greener pasture" or "wanted to go back to embryology". OTOH, took good care to revoke all her logins and remove her from all the skype chats.

I just said "now I'll never know how she looks", because she never showed any picture of hers, Kees provided one (with him, Nick, David and Laura, taken by a waiter some two years ago). Well, pretty much as I imagined.

The cremation is today (no, tomorrow). It's also Anita's 2nd birthday. Saw her on skype last night, she's running around, climbing the chairs, hanging on fridge door...

Talked with Jan today (we're starting Feds v 7 now), and after talking shop we switched to wtf happened. It seems Laura had pretty much the same complaints as I did (and so did he), only stronger - with the multiplication of management and several stupid moves they did and never confessed to us they were wrong. She just got fed up and negotiated her next job during the whole month. So I aired my grievances to him, specially the issue of the accountant not even looking at Nina's time sheet and just silently trying not to pay her at all for the whole february, and the crappy ClockWorker they bought for timesheets without even consulting anyone... the whole aloof decision making on the top. The results aren't disastrous but are not good either, and now we see how they hurt.

Boba, Dragan and his brother, Arpi and Lena went to the hospital today to see Silvija. She's still rather sedated - who knows by what - but not as slow as the day after surgery. Seems to be doing fine and will probably be released on friday.

On fourth I ran Firefox for the last time. Mozilla is still a corporation and they decided at some point to put their add-ons into order. These were written by thousands of colleagues, and now the corp decided to revoke one set of API, which was in widespread use so far, and force everyone to use the other one, which was allegedly more robust, stable, safe and may also make coffee. Since that version about two thirds of those plugins just stopped working. I didn't use too many of them, but I was seriously irked by the attitude, „we are big enough to be able to exercise our will to dictate to programmers what they must do and what they must not“. The worse for them that the Waterfox project forked away from them immediately, starting from some fourth version into the past, which was mostly one guy alone, and lo and behold, all those plugins still work in it. There were some hiccups first three months, but then he got feet firm on the ground, and here, I am writing this paragraph in september of 2024 and Waterfox is still my browser. The Firefox is still around by default, as it's the official browser in linux mint. Looking for something on my disk, I noticed that its cache is taking up almost two gigabytes... and no entries in it are newer than this fourth of may.
