Went off to Richmond to see the girls and Ricardo, then took Nina with us, a vacation for her. Got home and went to the beach, big style.

Still no internet. At least I got the phone line, and installed one of the numerous AOL disks which you could pick up at any grocery, and were arriving in the mail periodically. Sometimes they'd come in a nice metal box, which was the only useful part of it.

So I plugged in a RJ-11 cable into the phone and got, ahem, connected. I've rarely seen such a consumer-oriented, lame and narrow view of the web. Whatever you tried to do was somehow intercepted by their software and repackaged into how they imagined you should do the web stuff. Took me all day to find a way to at least get to the UA (I see I left two messages there the day after this), but didn't really have email until I got the DSL. It was one of those proverbial "playing a contrabass in a phone booth with your hands tied behind your back" (a proverb I invented).

It sucked big time, but that's what I had to use for another week or so. I hated Verizon more sincerely day after day.
