As usual, we have two remotes. One is, I guess, for the VCR, the other for the teevee. The other one is not the original, that one is kaputt, so we found this generic one in Glotz for five bucks. It's near impossible to procure the original, and even when it is, it lasts weeks and costs at least thirty. There's a way to set it up for various protocols, some twenty of them, but it's mostly guesswork, so press the sequence of buttons a dozen times until one works. Or did I Gugao out (switched recently to Gugao, much better than altavista) which one applies to our Orion.

Since the AC started working, it's easier to breathe, and Lena can now sit upstairs and play on the playstation or with Mrvica.

More work around the house. Painting Lena's room, blue. Two blues, one for the walls but not all the way up, a lighter shade above but not quite with a pattern, it's rather sponge smudges. The smudges go in the lower shade, on top of the already painted ceiling, which we did yesterday. The first time we use the masking tape, which we immediately renamed into molerska (roompainter's), shorter than maskirajuća. The floor is still covered with the pale bordeaux carpet, which finally looks good with azure blots.

The piece of metal on the unpainted part is the in-ceiling heating thermostat. Serves no function, but it's better to leave it, because it may still have a live wire hooked - we'd have to find out the fuse for each room's heating and disconnect the wires... Left it as a monument to technological stupidity.

The floor tiles in the kitchen are now grouted, just to wash it off and that part is done. We move the bicycles now here now there, wherever they are less in the way at the time.

We also laid and grouted the same tiles in the little hall by the lower bathroom. There's a niche for the washer/dryer aka frižider, and we already affixed the flex tube for the dryer's exhaust. It never held right, it fell off at least twice when we installed the contraption, plus once more a few years later.

Above Mrvica's tub we hung a fly catcher tape, because we can't change her bedding every two or three days. She's a live creature, so she pees and poops where she can, and a swarm congregates over time. Not quite flies, this is something smaller, ant sized, so if we can't eradicate them, let's at least limit their number. Felt funny, though, it's the twentyfirst century and we're using the same fly tape that my grandfather used fifty years ago.

The date on this photo says it's a thursday (12th) and the trashday is friday here. Though, this girl is not taking the regular trash, that's lifted mechanically by the truck, this is recyclables - glass goes into blue boxes, plastic into white bags or some such schedule, so it's possibly a thursday. These special trash services usually go before the regulars and on every other week, which includes a lift for bulky garbage. That's how we got rid of the old fridge and mirko, just had to find out the day.

Today some mail service brought the modem, for which I explicitly said I'll mount myself, so not to wait for their guy, I can do that. I mean, tough job, a coax to the box on the wall on one side, UTP on the other, and a power supply. Internet works again, yeah, finally.

Nina reports, in email:

[this message is translated, ahem, verbatim, with the same damage done to the orthography as in the original... Danilo is an admin on a gamers' website, ergo writes in engrbian alphabet, doesn't even have serbian keyboard layout set up.]

As far as work is concerned, it just so happened that David was on vacation until 14th, so I reappeared „on the face of Earth“ as he said (meaning on the web) even before he returned, and had put the work done on his server in Belgium, and on 15th we went through the work done and it all looks good.

Lena moved into her room on 15th.
