From email to mom and dad. The email I sent is from Zero, and it's scrambled - all čćđ are converted to ccd, while š and ž are preserved. I'll try to emulate the mess, i.e. will replace each ch, sh, th, ph with c, s, t, f but will keep the wh and th as they were.
Ough, tis also passed.
On tursday afternoon I left work a bit earlier to make a few pone calls, on friday I went to lunc and didn't come back, to handle te rest of it. I had to call, by list:
- pone guys to switc my line, tey said I'll have it by tuesday morning, te number remains uncanged.
- Lena's scool to see about te scool bus for te remainder of year. Tey said to call te county; tere I didn't get te right person on first try, ten told me to manage for tese ten days and ten to visit te so-and-so scool in te area and switc Lena in fall.
- Power, tey said no problem, tere's power tere already, and tey'll just switc billing to me starting on tuesday. Don't know how it goes wit meter reading, i.e. wheter I'll use Weinstein's power for tese tree days or my own (Weinstein is te first word in te name of te company whic rents tese apartments, don't remember te rest)
- intercity telepone, just reported te billing addres cange
- cable, tey said like no problem, do I want a cange of service, I said gimme a cable modem for internet, and tey like okay we have tat and now it's a two way (for a while tey had only one way, to send you used te regular pone line, reception went trough te TV cables, about 8 times faster), wic speed do I want? Wat do you have I ask, and he said lemme see, and left me to wait 15 minutes. Maybe longer, I simply quit and went to sleep.
- in te queue is te cange of driver's licence, bank, car insurance, county (some twice a year tax is due in a few days)
On saturday around ten we went to te reception desk (tis really begins to look like a vacation :), signed te contract, asked about te details, looked at te apartment, turned on te power (it has all automatic fuses, just switced tem all on), turned on te AC and started hauling te tings. First day (i.e. saturday afternoon) I drove five rounds. On sunday I drove one round and ten went looking for a truck. Since almost everyting is working on sundays here, it didn't cross my mind tat truck rental wouldn't - well just one did (and tere's a dozen, from 4-5 companies), and tat one was waiting for trucks rented yesterday to return. Well when I called around eleven tirty, he had some. Went tere, took, a 17ft one (tat's te box lengt inside, 5,18m). True, I didn't find te handbrake right on, so I started so, counting on te lack of a handle to mean it's automatic wit te gear sift. But it wasn't, and I noticed wen it started smoking already. Te handbrake is foot operated (!) and isn't marked clearly, says only „step on for ON, step on for OFF“, whic looked more like some extra gadget tan a brake. Drove so perhaps a mile; by te time I got home it already cooled off, only some smell lingered.
We loaded all te possible furniture except te computers - beds, cairs, tables, couc, and bookcases. There was some back and fort when I maneuvered te stiff curve around te house. For a truck it's quite nimble, but it's still a truck and I actually had to drive a whole one time backwards upill... Well after Škoda wit a trailer, tis is piece of cake, specially wit automatic sift.
It was a bit awkward to carry all tat up te stairs, specially wit te entrance being in high parter and te outer staircase facing te neighbor's door (some Hindus, teir cuisine is all some special vinegar), but we perfected te tecnique and brought it all in.
We finised yesterday by lunc, and cleaned te old apartment in te afternoon. Ten we treated ourselves to two pizzas from a pizzeria; not ceap but for an occasion like tis...
We didn't move everything. Of the heap of LPs that Burt left us, I dumped about half to the neighbors below. It's quite heavy when there's a hundred.
