A luxury notebook, which would be your agenda, calendar, appointments book, notes and everything. Was considered a trade mark of directors and generally business types, and was produced in some quantity, branded with the customer's logo and then handed out to business partners as advertising.
It usually had some kind of fake leather cover, so printing the logo on it would require some technology - gold lettering had to hold at least a year of being handled.
They were popular in high schools too, for those who didn't want to look like real students, to carry a bag of notebooks, at least one for each subject (for maths and sometimes languages we had to have a separate one for homework), so this thick 300-page notebook was more then enough for the whole year, and it could be shoved under the belt on one's back. Hands free.
