Friday (29th) we sold the first issue of "The Gram". Went nowhere in the evening.
General chaos at school on saturday, something like picking momentum for doček. We turned classroom into disco again. Radoja said to study this and that at home and then we sang the whole class long. Radisav passed some exams on that mickeymouse college in Rijeka (or did they bring the prof here and organized exams in kaštel). We invented a record player from somewhere, smuggled half a kilo of vinjak for him, got him drunk and he got soft and asked for a tango. With the biologist we had a row because we always seem to celebrate something when it's her class; the sociologist complained that we didn't announce this but eventually went along; Sonja just turned her time over. We met the IV/2 from the Second and had a show together. They're a female class with just one guy. That M.M. of 12-IX-1972. is in that class, still magnificent face, hair and ideas, but now in daylight looks so thin. But wears it well somehow. She was the cornerstone of the programme, which turned out great (would be better if Oli Boj ditched the accordeon and stayed with impersonations).
Went crazy in the disco in the evening, wrote nothing about it.
On sunday was the 31st, therefore the doček. Slept a bunch, drew myself on the korzo, at Proleter, when I was due to. Only Milica and her cousin (also IV4) were there. Branka came soon, so the two girls went to Gavra's place (nearby, there's doček this time) and we waited for the others. Gavra himself came soon. By 20:00 one more couple came by. He bought four packs of sparklers and a firecracker - which we fired right away, better than inside. I carried light shoes and regula in a bag, the latter in vain because someone promised to bring a flash but didn't.
Along with these, present were B.N. Jozda, Žuca, Gavra's older brother, some of his gang from radio club (he does electronics), Hazim with G.M., Gavra's curly girl, a few regular couples, couple of younger girls.
Branka wore a red silk shirt with a sash, and a black skirt. The sash we used in dozen ways - I'd tie it as a bandanna to be a pirate, around the waist like a Russian, on her sideways as miss of something, on me as a cravat hanging down, or as the other cravat hanging from, and she liked it when we danced and she tied it around us both. Some symbolic tie. She brought me a gold pendant shaped as a single letter (her initial or mine), well shouldn't have done that, but okay we're celebrating. Danced like crazy, at some point at least six guys stomped their brukserice (would be called martinke later, the boots) so the deejay switched to a slow block to give dust a chance to settle.
The sound system was hand made (one channel worked), there was a record player and two tape players, twentysome records and fiftysome tapes. Drank lemonade by the crate, vinjak, džoni voker (johnny walker) for the select few. Coffee too, franks with mustard and pickles.
We mocked Hazim about G. "does she... " "doesn't" "I'd just run her away" "Now that you say...". Milica was choking B.N. somewhere in a corner, and Branka and I went out only once for a quick grab. At 23:45 one of the guys hung the sprinklers everywhere, at 23:55 Gavra handed matchboxes to all the frajers; at 23:59:59 the deejay switched sound input to radio so we heard the countdown loud and clear. First the couples kissed, then everybody kissed everybody, then couples kissed again and then we opened fruškogorac ("Fruškogorski biser", sparkling wine), and poured it down straight, though we had glasses. And some alarm clock rang, mostly on time.
