I just couldn't bear the suspense, and as early as first break, I rushed down to see Višnja. I let her spill whatever she had, it's always nice to have an audience, then
- have you been thinking about the movie?
- what movie?
- the portrait. You know, I was telling you.
- Can't remember, what was it?
- Well you know the whole movie about just one person, what she likes what not.
- Ah, that, yes I know. You didn't tell me to think about it.
- I didn't but I was sure you would be thinking. You know what the title will be? "Portrait of a Višnja".
She stopped in her tracks for a second, and then started laughing like crazy. Then she briefly explained to D.M. what this was about.
- You can't be serious.
- On my mom, I got the tape, I got ideas, just to shoot it.
She laughed, simply not believing, then not able to imagine... a movie about her.
- I believe you will do it, but you didn't tell me it will be a "Portrait of a Višnja".
So I sat next to her, observed her face from all impossible angles, planned the shots.
I continued this during the next breaks. Not letting her catch a breath. Explained how I imagine it will be. Like when she appears from the dark and comes into a lit line, as if entering my bathroom from dark. Better, that the plane of light from above would travel from her back to front, lighting first the nape and shoulders, hair aura, gradually traveling to show the face (that sweet nose and cheeks).
D.M. asked about the destiny of the movie, where would it go. I said amateur festival in Kula, may 1972. And then wherever it goes from there. I could arrange to have you travel with us. "Oh yeah, I can just imagine being let go there". Ummm, so that's the problem.
That evening at Dom there was a rumour that Nikola Nešković was coming, but nothing there. Actually lucky that she said she can't come. It was actually worse than usual, not enough people (and none of my folks), so the heating wasn't enough.
Next day I continued the pressure. Heard that her father is a retired military, officer of sorts, which explains why they lived in Niš and then Macedonia (which is how she got the language). D.M. feels neglected, said "you don't need me... go to your starlette". Is that jealousy speaking? Not what I wanted, and not what I expected. This got me thinking... I mean, I'm still getting nowhere, but it's already making problems on the side.
Then on 3rd, a friday, I wanted to clear this up, but it turned completely differently - D.M. said she's not mad at all, while Višnja was sad all day, in very withdrawn mood. On the way home from school there were many of us together, including Dragana, and Višnja left us one block earlier than usual, which got me into thinking, what's wrong now. I almost went after her, but noticed that Dragana is keeping a keen eye on everything, so I didn't. She even asked "how is the thing standing", but I wasn't in the confessional mood, "which [dick] pains you about my things" (as literal a translation, meaning "what do you care").
Then on saturday it all smoothed out. D.M. clearly said she's not jealous, Višnja said she'd do the movie, on the one condition that we're not alone, "for a star like this you need three cameras" etc. So OK we won't be alone, she doesn't want (or dares not - who knows how's it at home), and it doesn't even matter, the plan is to shoot on the street, in the school, just anywhere.
Slogan of the week: "who runs, doesn't see; who sees, thinks it should be so".
Tito convened a session of the presidency in Karađorđevo (an agricultural kombinat in Bačka, with hunting grounds and so-called Tito's villa), where they cracked down on 'croatian spring'. The crackdown on nationalism and chauvinism ensued in the following months, with few prominent politicians being ousted. By mid month Tito submitted a proposal for the change of constitution (which will happen three years later). Ruckus at priština university.
