We went to visit the old house first (not calling it "my parents'" nor "dad's" - makes no sense anymore, they are gone and we own the place anyway) for just a brief checkup and to pick the mail. No new leaks anywhere, nothing stinks, nothing's broken, the weeds still haven't gone wild, perfect. There's some sediment in the sink of our old bathroom (somewhat remodeled because dad's majstors couldn't make sense out of what we did in 1981).
Then drove straight to New Bg to see Lena and the boys (them being Milan and Stojan). Sat for a bit in the apartment (no news there but the greenery growing like crazy) then took a long walk to Sava and found a splav where to eat. The place which disappointed so much last time, and which may have tempted us to visit again despite the bad experience, isn't so tempting anymore, because it sank. Did it sink because the airboxes sprouted a leak, or someone accidentally pulled a plug? Stojan replied that accidentally someone pulled all the plugs at the same time, they had bare five minutes to hurry the guests out, he witnessed the event from the bank. I guess it would be easy to trace which divers' club celebrated a sudden inflow of cash that evening. And the owner also had another restaurant on the next splav upstream, which is now completely dismantled - probably in for a complete rebuild. Yeah, right. Heard the guy was a real mafiozo and probably got into a row with someone he shouldn't have. At least nobody got hurt.
The place we picked seemingly at random turned out to be quite good. We sat inside (but near the main exit to the terrace and across from the main entrance, so almost outside) and mostly had pig's knees (so-called, it's actually the lower end of the ham, boiled, deboned, slightly fried) with baker's potato, excellent. It's a small outfit, they have a very short menu, but what they have is good. Nobody expected this much of general public being about today - the seasonably warm day in the middle of an unseasonably cold and snowy month of march, sounds like a collective escape from cabin fever. Haven't seen so many kids on the same day for quite a while.
Discovered that Bilja tried to call while we were away, so called her back. Another ad hoc meeting, this time on Babatovo, the favorite place of her village (and actually quite a good place with good tradition - I really wouldn't mind).
