First of all, the cigarette lighters have none of those safety features - no brake, no extra shield over the flint wheel. They are same as they ever were. Here's a couple of practically identical ones, one made for US market, one for Europe.
Other than that, since there is no domestic production any more, they are the same as in the rest of the area, except they are mostly the cheap throwaways. Often you get one of those with a carton of cigarettes, and sometimes it may even last to the seventh or eigth pack, and then the flint would jump out from under the wheel, or the wheel will fall out, or the gas would leak out.
For a while, around 2010, there was a popular model with a little battery, one LED, a transparent picture (usually a pin-up girl) and a lens, so it was a one-picture slide projector. Then they made another series without the picture, just a simple pocket torchlight. Then, by 2013, those were all gone.
Historically, until the first imported Bics in the seventies, only one factory made lighters, and those were gasoline burning. Not near as good as a zippo, it may be hard to operate and wasn't so wind resistant, but they would last and become heirloom. But then there were several factories in various unexpected parts of the country where they would produce gasoline for the lighters. And liquid gas for rechargeable gas lighters too. Nowadays both can still be found in kiosks, but all imported.
